A test tube study conducted by Sivanesan Dhandayuthapani and another study conducted by Kulpreet Bhui showed that bromelain suppressed the growth of breast cancer cells and stimulated cell death thus reducing the risk of cancer. Well, it certainly looks like the humble fruit has so much to offer and we could all do well by adding it to our daily diet.

The wonders of the fruit seem endless as they have been a part of traditional medicines for ages and may help boost immunity and suppress inflation. In a nine-week study conducted by Mavil May C Cervo, 98 healthy children who were fed no pineapple, some pineapple or lots of pineapples daily to see how it affected their immunity and the results showed that children who ate pineapples had a significantly lower risk of both viral and bacterial infections. The children that ate the most amount of pineapple had almost four times more disease-fighting white blood cells than the others.

Furthermore, pineapple juice has been a great option over cough syrups to help treat cough. One needs lytic agents to help thin mucus so that it is easier to remove while coughing. Incidentally, pineapple juice can be used as a lytic agent and it definitely tastes much better than those unpleasant bottled concoctions, doesn’t it?
